Strange film in many ways and absolutely conventional in others.  Widow needs money for her grandson’s lifesaving operation and ends up wanking off men in a Soho club, becoming a star in the field as Irina Palm and the love attraction of her boss. Marianne Faithfull gets frumpier by the role and does a good but not sensational job in this rather sad little Belgian/British movie. Some good supporting performances – Jenny Agutter reappearing too, this is an uneven film in the end, tonally, scriptwise and in intent, but it is watchable and does raise a couple of issues to think about, briefly.
