What the bleep do we know is a film that has appeared on commercial release this week in Argentina without any real fanfare or publicity. Nevertheless, it has created quite a stir in many other parts of the world for its novelty and the subject matter it deals with. It has been both the butt of critical comments and public acclaim.  It is certainly different.

The film is basically an invitation to us to rethink our ideas about life and reality and features a number of important academics, mystics and scientists who, using Quantum
physics as their starting point, question our beliefs about life.  The film is part documentary, part fiction, part interview and part sci-fi special effects.  The lead character, played by Marlee Matlinhttp://img236.imageshack.us/img236/4169/bleep1il3.png, is confronted with various situations that lead her to discover knowledge about life that she had never considered.  At first, she is resistant but then she starts to discovers points of view that affect her entire outlook on life and mean that she can take more charge over the direction of her life rather than following the patterns laid out for her by culture and conditioning.  The 'experts' http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8136/bleep2mv7.pngact as guides explaining the significance of several events and challenging our
beliefs about just about everything from the meaning of life to God, addictions, sex, religion and the work we do.  The connections with NLP are manifold.  One of the main messages is that if we learn to open our minds to new ideas and to learn to really see more of what is out there, we will experience a much wider choice of how we can live life and how we react to what life throws up.  The importance of being creators of our own reality is also emphasized.  Another of the features of the film is to see what some of the specialists in their fields are working on as they seek to reconcile religion and science.  It has been argued that many of the assertions regarding quantum physics have been distorted in the movie and that much of the scientific input is unproven.  As the film stands firmly at the junction between mysticism and sciencehttp://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6603/bleep3ow3.png, it is unlikely to make everyone happy, the purpose being much more to open our minds to new ideas and paradigms.  I liked the movie but it obviously sits a little awkwardly alongside the blockbusters at the local cinema complex.  And it ‘s value is more for opening debate than for film quality in itself.
