Machuca

This Chilean film is a haunting memory of the 1973 revolution as lived by two boys, one well-off middle class boy and a kid from the shanty town down the road. They come together in an Irish bilingual school and find things in common despite the great and subtle class divides that endure to this day. It is an observant and authentic film with lots for those who know Chile to mull over. The photography and some of the scenes are excellent and the overall effect is one of a poignant look back at a troubled time in Chilean history. t may not be a world beater but I give it
