I could comment on the UN Assembly or the narrow elections in New Zealand (a tricky one that) but I won't.  It seems that one of the great refuges for times that are stressful is to get inside music and lately I have been revisiting old records.  I took my discman to the gym yesterday to listen to the Doobie Brothers and the songs I most wanted to repeat were those from the days when Michael McDonald was fronting the band.  There is something about his voice, it's good of course, but something which transmits life, pain, doggedness, love and yearning.  It is a bit like a male version of Stevie Nicks from the same time.  What made their work special was the personal quality they brought to songs that somehow made them more of a real chronicle of life than many pop songs.  To understand this a bit more I visited his site, www.michaelmcdonald.com and I learn that he is touring round the states and still has a big fanbase and how many people find his music healing.  I guess he has really touched a generation of people especially in the US.  He has new albums and new projects out so I guess I will go searching when I have some time.

If you don't know him - listen.  Recommended tracks are Real Love, Minute by Minute, You belong to me
